Welcome to Years in the Bakin’! I’m Chiquita, but most people know me as Keke. I was born and raised in good ole Chi-Town, and this beautiful city serves as my homebase.
I was first introduced to baking by my grandmother, Donnie Bee Falls. I can remember her drinking a cup of hot Folgers coffee while she prepared a variety of cakes, cookies, cupcakes, and pies for our church family and the neighborhood. She would let me act as her “wing girl” in the kitchen, and I was given the important task of operating the hand mixer. Thank God we now have Kitchen Aid!
From those years in the kitchen with my grandmother, I developed a deep passion for the craft. As I baked and let friends and family taste my pastries, they would always say that I needed to get in the baking business. I continued to love and enjoy doing it as a hobby, but my friends and family started to refer me to other people, and what was a hobby grew into a steady stream of satisfied customers. This is where the name Years in the Bakin’ comes from–I have been baking for so many years that I finally decided, it’s time to start a business!
I bake cakes, cupcakes, cookies and brownies, and I make chocolate-covered strawberries. All of my pastries are made in my kitchen by me, the result of years spent perfecting my grandmother’s timeless recipes, and I strive for quality moist cake and high-level presentation.
